Öva & Pröva, åk 8-9

Öva & pröva is a teaching aid in reading comprehension in Swedish for students in high school. The books contain both fiction and non-fiction texts divided into general human themes. My task was to make illustrations for each theme.

I tried to avoid directly illustrating the content of the texts but instead find the underlying emotions, dilemmas and human phenomena that united the different texts in each theme.

I love working with images in this way. I believe that the wordless language can function as keys to our inner selves so that we can more easily talk about and try to understand each other and our surroundings.

I worked here in one of my favorite styles, graphite drawing combined with digital coloring and post-processing. It is very suitable when you want to tell a story, inspire, create emotion and engagement and invite reflection.
